Day Sixty Eight - Lake George, Michigan to Midland, Michigan

Day Sixty Eight
July 23rd
Thursday
52 Miles
Lake George, Michigan to Midland, Michigan

Cold morning, hot afternoon.  We were wearing jackets as we left Lake George but by 11 am the sun was shining brightly and it was getting hot. The first part of our ride on this beautiful day took us along lakes and down tree lined roads.  At Clare, Michigan we turned onto the Pere Marquette Rail Trail to ride 30 miles to Midland. This was a wide, smooth trail, very enjoyable to ride on. When we reached Midland we decided to stay there rather than continue on to Bay City. At the end of the bike trail was a very pretty park in Midland at the confluence of three rivers.  Next to the trail there was a large bike rack and bicycle 'fix it' station with every tool needed and air to complete minor repairs on a bicycle. The best part was the H Hotel overlooking the park and right off Main Street. We enjoyed hot showers, delicious sandwiches from the deli down the street, and a nap on a very comfortable bed.  For our evening entertainment there was a concert in the park complete with ice cream, and of course hot dogs to celebrate National Hot Dog Day...life is good!
