Day Forty Six - Fergus Falls, MN to Alexandria, MN

Day 46
July 1st
Wednesday
52 Miles
Fergus Falls MN to Alexandria MN

Today we rode on the Central Lakes Trail, an abandoned railroad line converted to a paved bike path for 103 miles.  We took our time today enjoying the many ponds, lakes, water fowl, turtles, wild flowers, trees, shrubbery, and birds along the trail. With no cars to worry about and seeing only a few other walkers and cyclist it was like our own exclusive trail.  Many times the trees created a shaded canopy to ride through giving relief from the heat. Each town along the trail had an area perfect for rest stops with picnic tables or benches.

We arrived in Alexandria expecting to camp.  The only place to camp no longer allows tents. After a visit to the Chamber of Commerce it was clear Alexandria would not be accommodating like other towns along the route.  If you are cycling, we don't recommend a stop in Alexandria.  They are one of the least bike friendly towns we have visited.
