68 Miles
Glidden to Boulder Junction, Wisconsin
We left Glidden on highway 13 to ride nine miles on a fairly busy road then turned at Butternut, WI to ride scenic back roads with less traffic.
The route was lovely again today. Wisconsin is a magnificent state, we have enjoyed it from farmland to forests. We passed a free range chicken farm. The happy chickens were roaming in a pasture of tall grass. We saw many types of water fowl as we entered a part of Wisconsin that has a dense concentration of lakes.
Traveling on tree lined roads, lined with wild flowers again today we started seeing more wildlife...deer, wild turkey, squirrels, chipmunks, and a variety of birds. The forest has been dense, with tall trees providing shade on much of the ride today.
We took a break, ate lunch in Mercer, then road about 9 miles on fairly flat roads. We had the opportunity to finish our ride on an enjoyable bike path winding through the forest to Boulder Junction, the Musky capital of Wisconsin. We wish there was a bike path like this a long side every road!
Boulder Junction is a cute little tourist town. We stopped by the bike shop, washed off our very dirty tandem and purchased some chain oil. Deer wander all around town because many business owners put corn out to attract them.
