Day Fifty Two - Cumberland, WI to Hayward, WI

Day 52
July 7th
Tuesday
Miles 65
Cumberland WI to Hayward WI

Yesterday's storm dumped 5 to 7 inches of rain and created cooler weather for today. We started out through hills of farmland.  With all the rain, the frogs could be heard singing praises all morning. We saw several dairies and many more barns and silos than we have seen previously. We saw potatoes being grown and a very large potato shed.

After climbing for around 10 miles, we were on a hill top surrounded by corn fields, just past them there were trees and forest all around us, as far as we could see. The forested areas were dense and reminded us a little of some of the forests in Washington State.

We stopped at a little grocery store in Haugen.  The owner, Mr. Hill had us sign his guest book.  He has entry's dating back to 2005 from cyclists that have stopped in his store.

The route leaving Haugen was on winding, tree lined roads with wild flowers along each side.  There were constant gentle, rolling hills as we traveled beside lakes. We enjoyed the scenery today.  One of the County Roads we traveled today was 'F'.  We decided it was built by someone that likes roller coasters and named it 'F' for fun ;-)

We camped off route in Hayward at the KOA.  There are many resorts and campgrounds in this area but most do not allow tents.  The KOA is pricey but has clean facilities and showers. It also has a pool, and other activities.
