Day Thirty Six - Circle to Glendive, Montana

Day 36
June 21st
Sunday
50 Miles
Circle to Glendive, Montana

We knew it would be a fun day when an unexpected cold front gave us 15+ mph headwinds.  Add this to 17 miles of rolling hills and we had our work cut out for us.  We tried coasting down one hill but the headwind stopped us. The roads were good with light traffic so we made slow progress the first seventeen miles after that the road leveled out for the remaining 33 miles into Glendive.  Today's terrain was mostly ranch land dotted with cows and horses, with some wheat and hay farms then turned to canyons. Eastern Montana plains have changed each day giving us something new to look at.  The further east we ride the fewer towns we encounter with services. It is amazing how much of the sky you see when riding on the plains!

In Glendive we stayed at the Makoshika State Park.  Very pretty here with quail, prairie chickens, and blue birds. It is a beautiful park but pricey for what you get. Pit toilets and the only water available is at the visitor center.  We have found that Montana State Parks are more expensive than National parks to stay at if you are from out of state.
