Day Thirty Eight - Medora, ND to Dickinson, ND

Day 38
June 23rd
Tuesday
56 Miles
Medora ND to Dickinson ND

We had planned to stay an extra day in Medora but the forecast for rain made us decide to move on.  We did laundry and left around noon.  We had a seven mile climb to the Painted Canyon overlook to take pictures of the Bad Lands.  About three miles later we exited I 94 to ride on Old Highway 10.  We enjoyed the scenic, quiet rolling hills.

Traffic picked up as we approached Dickinson, especially truck traffic.  We were surprised at the amount of growth from oil field development and construction of oilfield related facilities.

A thunderstorm followed us into Dickinson.  We arrived at Patterson Lake Campground and took shelter under the group picnic area.  Once the storm passed we set up camp, ate dinner, and sat in the tent as two more rain storms passed through the area.

Patterson Lake is a beautiful area but sadly not maintained, all campsites were dirty and trash cans were over flowing.
