Day Seventy Nine - Pittsford, New York to Fair Haven, New York

Day 79
August 3rd
Monday
Miles 64
Pittsford, New York to Fair Haven, New York

A beautiful morning riding along the Erie Canal to Palmyra. At Palmyra we turned on Church Street to continue our route along Lake Ontario.  Church Street in Palmyra is named so because of four churches (each a different denomination) facing each other, one on each corner. Palmyra is also where the Mormon Church originated. Many homes in the area were built around 1829 with lake stone, see the photos below.

About 6 miles past Palmyra we missed a turn. It worked out because we were on a road that parallels the one we should have been on. About 1 p.m., storms started forming. It looked like we would move away from them only to find ourselves between two rain storms. As we ran into one, the other rushed in from behind us with heavy rain and high wind.  We sought shelter next to a building with a small overhang and the storms moved through quickly. Even though we were pretty wet, we dried fast while riding in the sun.

On our way to the Fair Haven State Park we stopped at a home vegetable stand and bought squash and a cucumber.  We camped at Fair Haven, a very nice State Park with a beach on Lake Ontario, and large campsites under tall trees. The fresh vegetables were a nice addition to our dinner. We enjoyed snacking on the cucumber and added the squash to our spaghetti.
