Day Eighty Three - Long Lake, New York to Ticonderoga, New York

Day 83
August 7th
Friday
Miles 62
Long Lake, New York to Ticonderoga, New York

This morning we were very tempted to stay in Long Lake to go kayaking.  Long Lake is a beautiful area we would enjoy spending time. The owner of the Shamrock Motel let us know they were booked for the weekend and so would every hotel / motel in the area. In Long Lake there is a famous camp for the arts, and this weekend parents will be there to observe presentations and performances by the students. http://www.longlakecamp.com/

We left Long Lake on highway 28N enjoying a quiet, scenic ride on a cool, cloudy morning. This was a wonderful road with good shoulder and light traffic while we were on it. The trees towered over us providing shade as we rode on rolling hills.  There were a lot of hills but these hills have not seemed to be as steep as many people told us to expect, that will most likely start tomorrow as we enter our ninth state, Vermont. We enjoyed today's ride through the beautiful mountains of the Adirondacks.  With the cloudy haze the mountains seemed to have a blue tint to them.  We rode across the beginning of the Hudson River in Newcomb then on Blue Ridge Road we took a break to enjoy the scenery. Rivers we crossed were clear with a brown tint to the water. We learned earlier in the week the brown is from the pine needles.

We briefly met a young man from Seattle riding to Bar Harbor.  He was traveling light, moving well and excited to be so close to finishing.  We have met so many cyclists along the way, every one of them enjoying a unique journey. We also met a woman traveling with an Adventure Cycling group doing a week long Vermont loop.

After a few miles on the very busy highway 74 we ended our day in Ticonderoga.
