Day Seventy Eight - Middleport, New York to Pittsford, New York

Day 78
August 2nd
Sunday
Miles 60
Middleport, New York to Pittsford, New York

Riding along the Erie Canal on crushed, hard packed cynder has been easier than we anticipated. It does create a little drag on the tires and requires constant pedaling but the flat surface is nice and the best part is no cars to worry with.

Along the Erie Canal we have seen several boats traveling and some docked at the small towns a long the way. It was fun to meet and visit with two retired school teachers at Middleport that spend all summer living in and traveling in their boat the way others travel in a motor home.

We had lunch at Mainstreet Pizza in Brockport, NY. The slices of veggie pizza were delicious and so large it took two plates to hold one slice.  Leaving Brockport we met Hannah, a twenty year old riding the Northern Tier West to East by herself. Her father met up with her and will be riding with her for a few days.  They were headed to Pittsford same as us, so we saw them several times on the trail.

Pittsford turned out to be a very nice little community along the canal.  Lining the canal were no mes with beautiful flower gardens, a couple of horse farms, and inviting docks for sitting and relaxing along the canal or just watching the many ducks.  Pittsford is also close to a popular area with local wineries, all of this along with the cute shops and restaurants makes this a place that might be nice to enjoy for a few days.

In Pittsford we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn enjoying a hot shower and extremely comfy bed.
