Day Eighty Two - Old Forge, New York to Long Lake, New York

Day 82
August 6th
Thursday
Miles 45
Old Forge, New York to Long Lake, New York

Without knowing what the terrain would be today, we planned for less mileage heading into the Adirondacks. It turned out to be rolling hills with only a few steep climbs along Highway 28 and 28N through the Villages and Hamlets of Inlet, Blue Mountain Lake, then up to Long Lake.  This was again a spectacular ride along tree lined roads and lakes on a cool cloudy day, that could not have been more perfect riding weather. When there was no traffic the silence was amazing only broken now and then by the sweet sound of birds.

We arrived in Long Lake fairly early to stay at the Shamrock Motel and Cottages overlooking Long Lake.  They had a garage they allowed us to put our bicycle and trailer in since the trailer would not fit through the door to our room.  The motel has a nice beach, community fire pit, boat rentals, laundry room, and chairs for relaxing by the lake. We had a magnificent view of the lake out our window and enjoyed sitting in the adirondack chairs watching the sunset. This was another gem of a place to stay with owners that cater to the guests.

Wildflowers abundant along the route
