And the journey begins...

Day 1
May 17th
Sunday
24 Miles

We were up early and packed for our journey. First stop was The Crumpet shop for breakfast.  After breakfast Alan and Nickie helped us put the trailer together, load it and sent us on our way.  From Seattle we took the ferry to Bremmerton, then rode to Kitsap Memorial State Park for our first evening of camping.

This was our first experience of riding on a ferry.  They boarded us first and we were first off at Bremmerton. We stayed with the bicycle in the open area of the ferry where the cars were. It was pretty cold with the wind off the water but very pretty scenery along the way.  Seattle faded quickly into the distant fog.

As we rode our bicycle out of Bremmerton, it was uphill on a street lined with cute, quaint colonial homes surrounded by blooming bushes and flowers. The remainder of the ride to Kitsap followed SR 20 lined with tall pines and cedar trees along with ferns and a yellow flowering bush.  As we had breaks in the trees we could see the water since this road followed the sound. This was a paradise for birds, we enjoyed hearing them the entire way. Only two wrong turns for the day, neither were too difficult to correct or too time consuming.
